Description: A lovely 8” Madame Alexander #565 Greece in box from the International Doll Series, ca. 1978-1983, from Snowdrift Antiques. The Alexander Doll Company was founded in 1923 by Beatrice Alexander, aka Madame Alexander, and is still in operation today in New York, NY USA. The Alexander-Kins, Wendy, Wendy-Kins dolls, which are 7 1/2 - 8" tall, used the Wendy face mold from 1954-1994. Many of these dolls are either unmarked or marked ALEXANDER or ALEX.This is a very pretty 8” Madame Alexander doll dressed in a Greek traditional outfit, #565. She has brown sleep eyes that open and shut with ease. Her black hair is in its original set with a flip curl at her neck. Her face has lovely painted features, I found no marks or rubs and her cheek blush is bright after all these years. She has that sweet Madame Alexander Wendy face lip pucker. She is a strung plastic doll with a socket head, and jointed arms and straight legs. The mark on her back reads: ALEXANDER. The rubber bands used to string her were loose so she was restrung with elastic which should last longer. Her outfit consists of a black skirt attached to a white blouse that has black embroidered trim over her shoulders and black braid across her chest. There is white lace trim around her neck. She also has yellow apron with two rows of orange stain trim above the hem and white lace at the hem, it ties in back. The dress is tagged in back with a label that reads: “Greece” / by MADAME ALEXANDER / New York, USA. The dress closes with two snaps in back. The outfit is clean and crisp, looks like she was never played and spent most of her years protected in her box.On her head she sports a bright white fitted cotton bonnet with a lace accent around her neck and colorful red fabric flowers in front. It is held to her head with a snap. Her under garments consist of white cotton pantaloons with lace trim at the hems and a white cotton underskirt with lace trim at the hem and a row of ruffled netting to hold the dress out wide. She wears white hose that go over her knees and black faux suede slip on shoes. She does not have a wrist tag but her box suggests she was made between 1978 and 1983.Her Madame Alexander blue box is labeled GREECE 565. It is in excellent condition with light wear on the edges. It retains the inner neck brace to hold her in place when boxed. The base has the original price tag from Garfinkel’s next to the box label. This precious little Madame Alexander Greek doll is looking for her new home, will it be yours?
