Description: Civil War Receipt for a Springfield Rifle, March, 1865, 8 1/2" X 11" This is a rare document listing the "Invoice of Ordnance and Ordnance Stores" for a Springfield Rifle Musket. One-page, two-sided, handwritten invoice of ordnance conveying the transfer of ordnance stores from a Captain (?) to a Lieutenant Colonel (J N Patterson) I believe. The form designates the number of boxes and the type of the musket (Springfield Rifle Musket). The weight and value areas are not filled in. This transfer was done at a camp near Chapin (Farm ?) Virginia. The back page of this form furnishes both an 1863 circular order from the Washington Ordnance Office and rules for an invoicing ordnance officer outlining the four types of authority under which ordnance can be issued or transferred. It is dated March 3rd 1865. Some research may be able to identify the persons involved, but I can't make their names out clearly. This is an original document hand written in ink in 1865. It was folded in thirds, so it has light crease marks. There is some light blue ink staining near the right inner page edge. The inside is very light colored, the outside has very minor tanning. Please look at the seven photos. It will be shipped flat.
