Description: This Sale is for One (1) B-17 Flying Fortress Pilot's Directional Indicator While the Pilot's Directional Indicator could be found in nearly every type of USAAF Bomber during WWII, some are much rarer than others. Available here is one of the rarest of all WWII Pilot's Directional Indicators because is stamped on the reverse with B 17 inside a white disc (latter was a Douglas Aircraft hallmark). Douglas built 300 of the 12,731 Flying Fortresses and this Instrument was removed from one of their Bombers at Kingman after the War.. The dial shows this example was made by ROLLER-SMITH CO. and it's also is marked CLN, INC. which stands for Carl L. Norden of Norden Bombsight fame. The PDI is the only gauge in the plane that could factually be called a 'bomber instrument' since it was used for visual communication between the pilot and bombardier once the latter took control of plane's horizontal movement during the Bomb Run. No rusty, wire-brushed or otherwise repaired junk - merely lightly cleaned. Tape residue once bore the Instrument's Kingman inventory #. THE PDI SHOWN IS THE ONE YOU'LL RECEIVE. BONUS: 4 original brass instrument screws & 4 brass Stop Nuts (Kingman takeouts in excellent condition) to aid in mounting your PDI. Shows slight wear from use, storage and age - otherwise it's a real nice souvenir as removed from a Kingman B-17 Flying Fortress after WWII. As with all DEPOT 41 Instruments, this B-17 Pilot's Directional Indicator is offered as a fine used collectible.
