Description: A gorgeous color etching and aquatint by Tavik Frantisek Simon (1877-1942). It titled "Quai Aux Fleurs" and depicts elegant Parisians shopping at the flower market on the Ile de la Cité in the center of Paris. It is pencil signed in the lower right and numbered 236 in the lower left, from an edition of 300. Plate initialed in the lower center, the print published by L'Estampe Moderne (blindstamp lower left) in 1922, Catalog: Baker 183, Novak 371. Plate measures 12 1/2 x 15 1/2 inches, sheet size is 16 3/4 x 20 inches with a deckel edge at bottom. It has some marginal surface grime, two dog eared corners and a diagonal line of tiny nicks (just right of the blindstamp) in the lower margin, otherwise excellent condition. Tavik Frantisek Simon (1877-1942) was a painter, etcher, and woodcut artist. Born František Šimon, he later adopted the additional name 'Tavik', which was his mother's maiden name, generally signing his work T. F. Šimon and commonly known as T. François Simon. Largely ignored during the Communist era in Czechoslovakia, his work has received greater attention in recent years. Many of his most notable images are of Prague, New York, and Paris, but also include portraiture and self-portraiture and images of the Czech and Slovak countryside. Simon's style was strongly influenced by the French Impressionists and, perhaps through them, by Japanese printmaking techniques, in particular color aquatints with soft ground etching. note: the above bio was drawn from the artist's wikipedia page which contains much more information about this artist.https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tav%C3%ADk_Franti%C5%A1ek_%C5%A0imon
