Description: Hybrid desert bromeliad from South America (D. platyphylla x D. leptostachya). Shoots out a 2-3 ft. tall humming bird pollinated inflorescences with tiny orange flowers in late spring. Nectar is very sweet and tastes like rice syrup. Forms clumps of 12 inch tall by 15 inch wide rosettes of deep-green leaves overlayed with rich rusty-red that intensifies in full sun. Drought tolerant. Hardy to 20-25° F. Ships bare root.
