Description: This is a new issue of PUNK Magazine! The legendary magazine that launched the Punk Movement in 1976. Most people don't know that we have published several new issues since the 1970s (but we have), but this issue is getting a lot more attention! And we're selling it at a bargain price. We printed a few thousand issues so it will take a while before it becomes a "collector's issue," but that's why we planned to make this available to eveyone (instead of making some an expensive "deluxe collectible.") It's printed in tabloid format (like PUNK #1 (Lou Reed), #2 Patti Smith), #6(The Legend of Nick Detroit, starring Richard Hell), #10 (Blondie) and #11 (The Dictators). It printed on cheap newsprint (a first for us!), but with 1/2 of the magazine on color pages. It was produced to promote a live event featuring six punk rock bands: Vamanos, The Licks, Labretta Suede and the Motel Six, Bad Vacation and Toxic Tito. Four of the bands were able to perform at a Tompkins Square Park event where hundreds of copies were given away. But the event was ruined by a rainstorm, so we are planning another event soon. Each of the bands have a full page in this issue. A lot of original PUNK Magazine cartoonists, staff, photogs and illustrators contributed to the issue: Bruce Carleton (who contributed to PUNK since 1977) produced an epic story of the time he hung out with The Misfits at the Chelsea Hotel. Must read. It's a crazy story. Robert Romagnoli (who has contributed to the magazine since the first issue) illustrated a funny story about his encounter with a "Punk Rock Tour" in New York City. Bob Gruen took photos of one of the hottest punk bands in NYC: Bad Vacation!Danny Hellman illustrated the cover image, he's been working with PUNK Mag since the 25th Anniversary issue (PUNK #0) in 2001.Rufus Dayglo (a very talented English cartoonist who contributed to PUNK Magazine last issue: #22, which was a tribute to Iggy Pop) did an amazing comic strip about Dee Dee Ramone. And advertisers like Trash & Vaudeville (our very first advertiser in 1975!), and Manic Panic (who first advertised with us in 1977!) are also in the magazine. Also: The cool stores in New York City that keep the 1970s spirit alive: Academy Records, Village Works, Limited-To-One (located next door to me!), and East Village Collective (where I did a podcast recently). All cool people. We also published a lot of new talent:Bob Krasner (who covers many East Village events and bands) took great photos of Labretta Suede Miss Debra T. took a great photo of Toxic Tito (and co-hosts many events with PUNK Mag's John Holmstrom) Ella Kriviova shot Vamanos, the band that inspired PUNK Magazine's comeback!Imari Azzizi, a French cartoonist, has a bunch of comic strips in the issue: Iggy Pop recommended her to me! Mike Wartella (who not only worked with me on a cool animated cartoon thing, as well as the video for Ozzy/Jeff Back collaboration) did a vicious take-down of the record industry comic strip. Robynn Ricochet took a great photo of The Stivs, who did a great show at the Tompkins Square event on September 28. This is an excellent new issue of PUNK Magazine, worthy of being in anyone's collection and just a fun read. And unlike other previous issues of PUNK? It's cheap. So don't count on this becoming an instant "collector's item."That will take a few years...
