Description: Such a wonderful and unique set to land in our laps! Gorgeous rhinestone decorated royal purple fez with gold tassel and accompanying rhinestone PERC slide. I believe PERC stands for Past Exalted Ruler, not sure. Two purple and white aprons in nice condition. One looks brand new. One stunning rhinestone encrusted velvet lined collar with the owners name and offices on mother of pearl looking plaques. Fez carrying case and carrying case for the aprons and collar. The apron case also contains familial certificates! The Improved Benevolent Protective Order of Elks of the World was granted a copyright as an organization on September 28, 1898, in Cincinnati, Ohio. A Pullman porter, Arthur James Riggs, and Benjamin Franklin Howard, who were both members of another fraternal organization discovered they both had dreams of forming an Elks organization for people of color. Their dreams and plans were realized when the first Lodge, Alpha Lodge No. 1, was organized in Cincinnati as a result of their efforts. As the Elks prevailed, the organization struggled against many racist attitudes and legal efforts to deny the existence of the Improved Benevolent Protective Order of Elks of the World. Beautiful pieces of history here that need to be cherished. Items have a slight musty aroma as if they were stored in a damp area. Please see the photos for overall size and condition. Thanks for looking and have fun bidding ☺️
