Description: All songs published by Welbeck Music Corp. (ASCAP) The great space science fiction television series, "Space: 1999," stars TV's famed personalities: Martin Landau (Commander John Koenig) and Barbara Bain (Dr. Helena Russell). As all fans of the thrilling science-fiction dramas know so well, "Space: 1999" is the story of Moonbase Alpha and the some 300 men and women, from all nations of Earth, who make up its population. Space travel has become commonplace in 1999 and these people are based on the moon to man an early-warning defense system, to explore the possibility of life on other planets and to help store atomic waste on the far side of the moon. The atomic waste explodes and the huge thermonuclear explosion blasts the moon out of Earth's orbit. It careens away from the Earth; it can never return. It becomes the only world for the inhabitants of Moonbase Alpha, who must now find a compatible planet on which to settle. The base is able to maintain survival conditions (fortunately technological advarises wave made the runaway moon totally self-supporting) as the journey through the vastness of space begins. Along the way, the Earthmen space explorers, led by the dashing Commander Koenig, and Chief Medical officer Dr. Russell must match wits with fantastic life forms found throughout the galaxies. As the adventures unfold, viewers are treated to a spectacular "show." There are dazzling costumes created by Rudi Gernreich as well as specially constructed futuristic equipment, incredible special effects and brilliant photography (Brian Johnson-Nick Allder) to astound the imagination of the most demanding space enthusiast. About Barry Gray... British composer Barry Gray, the man responsible for the exotic background music of SPACE: 1999, comes from a musical background himself. His family encouraged his study of music at an early age and later he was instructed in composition by the noted Hungarian composer, Matyas Seiber. The arranging skills so evident in his music today were heightened when he settled in London and got on-the-job experience doing arrangements for the theater, the big bands and various BBC orches-tras. From there it was a natural step to working on feature films, a stint as arranger-accompanist for pop singer Vera Lynn, and ultimately directing the original music for ten TV series for Associated TeleVision, Ltd. His latest triumph is SPACE: 1999. A specialist in electronic music, he has created its intriguing, weird sounds, using at times several electronic musical instruments, to transport listeners into the world of the uncharted-unknown.
