Description: This Lepine layout pocket watch features a beautiful patterned silver dial with applied gold roman numerals, minute track, blued hands and hand engraved floral center feature. The case is made from sterling silver and is hallmarked to 1850, the case maker is Joseph Harris. Inside is a superb English movement with lever escapement, fusee chain, diamond balance jewel, blued screws, gilt finish and hand engraved balance arm. The movement is engraved AD1850, so is clearly original to the case. It's not running, and the fusee position on the cone indicates it is wound. A little turning pressure on the key and it will start ticking and looks mechanically healthy, but will stop when the key is released. Will need a clean/overhaul to bring back to running order, but basically it looks to be in good condition. I highly recommend not winding, forcing anything or changing the time etc until after it is serviced. The case doors close crisply and the crystal is in good condition. There are faint scratches to the dial but nothing too serious, and the dial remains a highlight of this piece. This watch is just under 43 mm in diameter, and has a nice compact feel and look, its a very tight and cosmetically good piece without any monograms. With this dial and movement, it would have been a very high end offering in its day. If you're after a very special antique piece in silver with a tight case, lovely dial and high end movement, this is the one. See my other listings.
