The flange acts as a stop and "cleans" up the hole when it is inserted into the wall. Can be used in drywall, concrete, stone, brick, wood, etc. Start by drilling a 5/16" hole, in solid surfaces drill hole 2-1/2" to 3" deep depending on screw diameter. Insert anchor into hole and then screw in fastener of choice to complete task. Anchor will accept screws from diameter #8 to #14. The screw length should be about 1-1/2" long plus the thickness of the fixture for hollow wall applications and can be longer for solid wall. For solid wall applications increasing the fastener diameter will increase holding power. To save on shipping anchors may be shipped in plastic bag with cardboard box folded flat to fit shipping envelope.
