Review Excellent Book!!! I really love this book. It is excellent! There are lots of good visuals and the book shows you how vitamins were first discovered beginning with Vitamin C and the mystery of why British sailors, "Limeys" were immune to succumbing to scurvy after they started including citrus fruits in their diets. Also, why was it that Japanese sailors didn't suffer from Scurvy, a Vitamin C deficiency but always suffered so terribly from Beriberi, a B Vitamin deficiency and the British did not. The Japanese sailors were eating polished rice which removes all of the B Vitamins. When the Japanese started experimenting with giving some of their sailors the same diet as the British sailors which included oats which had the B Vitamins they no longer got sick with Beriberi. The book starts off with these early observations and goes on from there. I found these stories fascinating and very easy to understand. The book belonged to my friend and it had been her Dad's. I begged her to sell it to me but she refused! Bummer! Fortunately, I also found a copy of it in a thrift store just as the other reviewer did and I'm very happy to see that it is available here on Amazon. I will buy several copies and give them as gifts. The book is in a good used condition. The cover is slightly worn up on the edges. · Please be serious about your bids.
