Description: Very Early, Original Antique Tin Candle Mold, Unusual 8 Tube Size for 8 Candles Made by Early Tinsmith c.1790 DESCRIPTION: Scans show it all.....A VERY EARLY, c1780 - 1790 tin candle mold from my personal collection. THIS IS AN ORIGINAL COLONIAL ITEM AND NOT A REPRODUCTION AS OFTEN SEEN ON EBAY. This one is very unusual, having 8 "tubes" to make 8 candles at a time. Candle molds were quite an improvement and time saver over hand-dipping candles on early farms, but were rather expensive in 1700's money and not too common, especially the larger sizes. It is in good condition. It stands 10" tall x 5" wide x 3" deep. It has a rectangular top, made to hold the tubes in place and facilitate "damming" the wax during pouring. This also provides a dam to hold the wax and keep it from spilling over. At the bottom the tubes are held in place by a similar rectangular bottom rack which also serves as a stand during cooling. Each tube is about 7/8" diameter. THIS WAS HANDMADE OUT OF HEAVY TIN PLATE MATERIAL BY AN EARLY NEW ENGLAND TINSMITH, AKA "TINNER". Looks nice and is in good condition overall. Nice aged tin patina. Nice early item. MORE THAN 225+ YEARS OLD!!! Great original colonial decorating item for a mantle/shelf or in a kitchen, family room, or living room display. A NICE COLONIAL PERIOD CANDLE MOLD!! PLEASE SEE ATTACHED PHOTOS!!! Please see my auction list for other interesting items!! SHIPPING TERMS: Buyer pays $11.00 postage in the US.
